It started early – 1970... The Beatles came on WLS as the DJ announced their break-up. While not 100% sure who they were, I knew the tunes and was oddly saddened by this news (I was only 5, mind you). Over the next few years, 70’s Pop earworms filled my brain (most notably, Pilot’s “Magic” and Looking Glass’ “Brandy’) and from then on music was a constant “friend”. Kiss, BTO, Foghat, Heart and everything else late 70’s was next, followed by a high school "Obsession" with UFO and all things hard rock. The UFO has stuck with me, but over the years I’ve enjoyed just about every genre that’s come down the pike (Disco and "modern" Country not withstanding).
Locally, Jimi’s played in quite a few acts, with SPAKL being the longest running at 24 years (and counting), performing only for benefits and fundraisers, including 22 years (and counting) at the House of Blues on behalf of City of Hope. Other bands he’s fronted, include DeepSix, Transformation and most recently, both local Lynyrd Skynyrd Tributes.
Regarding A.D.D., he says….
"While singing has been my primary focus, the opportunity to expand by learning more about guitar, while adding some mandolin, percussion and even some harmonica has really been enjoyable. Working with Jim to dial-In our own sound and the act has been very enjoyable and based on the crowd reactions, we’re bringing something to the venues that people really seem to enjoy"
Although a fan of music since he was two years old (B.J. Thomas' Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head was an early fave), Jim's muse arrived in the form of The Beatles while he was in junior high. Intent to form a band, he took up drums since his friend already had a guitar. After that early attempt at putting a band together fizzled out, Jim switched over to guitar.
Many bands came and went, but none got out of the basement until he formed the duo Itchy & Scratchy in the late 90's. Since then, Jim could be found playing around the area with bands like Goin' South, Broken String Theory, DeepSix and Midnight Rider. In addition to Acoustic Deficit Disorder, Jim currently performs with Bad Penny, Recycled and The All My Brothers Band.
Jim has shared the stage with a myriad of national acts, including Foghat, .38 Special, Molly Hatchet, Starship, Head East, Josh Kelley, Material Issue, The Smithereeens, Marshall Crenshaw, Jimmy Van Zandt and Ronnie Spector.
Regarding A.D.D., Jim says "It's great because we get to play songs from all different genres, so there's something in one of our shows for everyone. And while we are serious about the music, we don't take ourselves too seriously. People feel like they are hanging out with us in our basement, regardless of the venue type or size. I think that combined with our ever-changing set list is what keeps people coming back."
Acoustic Deficit Disorder has played in just about every type of venue . From small dive bars (which they love) to baseball stadiums and everything in between, they approach each show with the same passion for playing regardless of venue size.
